WARNING!
This recording contains very brief references to: alcohol, amateur's singing, mental deterioration, and poetic interpretations of mathematic principles. You have been warned.
Good evening. I'm Lune and I like to tell stories. Welcome to my art experiment.
About a year ago my cousin recommended that I start recording my poems and sending them to her. She shared them with her mother, who shared them along. The recordings were sporadic, but fun and cathartic. I thought I had other plans for these words, but life has a way of handing you solutions in the places you least expected. The ones you probably should have been looking in all along. When she mentioned SoundCloud, all the pieces clicked into place.
Those In Darkness, a username I've been hoarding since the year 2003, finally found its purpose. This project is a collection of poems, songs, stories, haiku, and other paradoxes, that have trickled out of my brain over the last few decades.
In the spirit of introductions — and because when asked to identify myself in one word I tend to go with "intersectional" — I've selected a group of very short works as a way of giving you the nickel tour through brain space.
I hope you feel something.
This one is called:
“Argentina”
I feel like I'm going insane
Trapped in a prison of my making
How do I break free?
How do I break free?
This pen is slowly dying
A metaphor for my evaporating coping skills
Don't go out on me
Don't go out on me
There's a woman crying out
Mad cackle or bitter tears
I can't tell anymore…
Don't laugh at me
Don't cry for me
This one is called:
“Chaos”
There is a fractal pattern
For the way a tree grows
But no such sacred math
For the way the wind blows?
At the intersection of hot and cold
A storm is born in the ocean
To set dry land awash
And set life's fractals in motion
This one is called:
“Come Over Baby”
Come over baby it's a long cold night
Come over baby you can make things right
Come over baby there's work to be done
The lights are off the curtains down
I promise there's not a soul around
And we'll be done before the sun
Oh, the lights are off the curtains down
I promise there's not a soul around
And we'll be done before the sun
This one is called:
“It’s Not For Me”
I wanted you to love it
I wanted you to weep
I wanted you to see
How much it means
I gave my heart
I bared my soul
I bled into these keys
(bang/bang/bang)
And all you had to say…
Was "It's not for me"
This final one is a toast, so please, if you're drinking, regardless of what it is, raise your glass. And if you're transgressive, raise an empty glass. There are no rules in art. This one is called:
“To Heartbreak”
When too far from those we love
And when we are too near
When we give trust to those we love
And when we offer fear
In life and in death
In peace and in mayhem
When we hurt the ones we love
And when we save them
A spot of housekeeping is in order:
First: I'm not a recording artist, nor do I have any aspirations as such. I sang Come Over Baby and not the subsequent snippet (which is also a song) because, in my artist brain, the jazziness of it added something to the delivery.
If you're interested in covering and/or expanding on any of my works, I WOULD BE HONORED. Obviously, please tell me about it! If you wish to monetize it in any way, please reach out me about the rights.
Second: I originally recorded and uploaded these episodes before doing several other things… like setting up an RSS feed or selecting a mailing list platform. As such all of these recordings -- save this one, which I had to re-record -- end with me stating I don't have any socials. That's still true. I both don't have any socials AND I didn't change the original outro.
However, you can head over to my BeeHiiv site, which should come up as the shows primary website on most podcast platforms. That's where I'm keeping text transcripts of each recording on the web. It's free. You can also sign up to the mailing list and get updates when a new chapter is published.
Also, in addition to SoundCloud, you can find this podcast on Spotify, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and Pandora. I'll be working over the next few weeks to try and expand that list to other podcast directories.
Third (and finally): Book one of Those In Darkness will begin with ten (possibly eleven) chapters, should be delivered in November of 2025 (though I am thinking of starting early). Chapters will go out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, around the witching hour, Eastern. My next installment of the project (or book 2) is planned for 2026. More on that later.
Those are all the tales I have to tell today. You can reach me via email, thoseindarkness (at) gmail No other socials for the moment… Except the old fanfic ones, if you're feeling adventurous.
Thank you for listening. I hope you felt something.
I'm Lune and I wish you curiosity.
