This song is dedicated to Lady Gaga.
In 2023 she performed her Top Gun Maverick song at the Oscars. Before she sang, she spoke about the importance of heroes. Not always big ones, the little ones you find in your life. About needing to be your own hero, sometimes. It was a beautiful sentiment.
My first thought was "No we don't. We don't need another hero." My response was more about what was going on in my head than what was in the Mother Monster's words. I checked out half way through the song because somewhere between the pain in her voice and the fire in my guts I had to write. This song fell out of my head nearly fully formed.
All my love to Lady Gaga for inspiring this piece, which I am incredibly proud of and still wonder how I wrote.
