Good evening. I'm Lune and I like to tell stories. This one is called:
“Mantra”
Learn when to let go
And when to stay in touch
Learn to stop pretending
That it didn’t mean so much
Learn to understand
A loyalty divided
Learn to play on
With the hand you’re provided
Maybe in another life
It wouldn’t be this way
Maybe if you fit the mold
Then they’d have less to say
Sometimes you can only fight
To be that which you are
Often times you’ll find that fight
Will leave a nasty scar
Learn to rid your dreams at night
Of all that you held dear
Learn to slow the rapid beating
Learn to quell the fear
Never give up hoping
That your patience will prevail
Remember that your love for them
Is one they can’t assail
Learn to hear the voices now
Carefully through the mesh
Filter out the garbage
Ignore the pain that’s fresh
Listen to the evidence
But verify your source
Be mindful of your footing
And stay the course
Remember that your wounds
Travel deeper than they know
Never forsake your heart
Know how far you’ll go
Never give the doubt
Another reason to ensnare
Never stop the hoping
Remember that you care
Hold tight to the love you have
Remember what it means
Keep track of what you’re fighting for
Don’t lose it in to your dreams
Remember where your head is
And it will guide you through
Remember this is in your hands
Your life is up to you
I find it surreal that this was written over two decades ago yet it remains pertinent. I can feel that child inside me. Can see the specificity through the vague references. That child has grown so much. This world has changed so much. Some things. Not others. Sometimes, I still cry when I read this poem. Because, sometimes, I still need to be reminded.
Those are all the tales I have to tell today. You can reach me via email, thoseindarkness (at) gmail (dot) com. No other socials for the moment…
Thank you for listening. I hope you felt something.
I'm Lune and I remember: Silence is golden. Duct tape is cheap.
